Suggestion: handle the install process in an easier manner
Based on what I observed from other users, some may get confused with "install", "build", "transaction summary", "edit build files", "apply".... I understand the logic behind them but would be fantastic to be able to enable like a simplified version where users search for a program and simply click install (then add password) and done. Regardless if it is from AUR or Repositories or Faltpak.
In the same package manager users are faced with "install" and "build" and can create confusion. Again, I get the logic behind "building" AUR packages, but they too are "installing" right? Same with flatpaks that are basically (mostly) "downloading" right?
It can also be a bit confusing if I want to install the package X but I need to click install, then apply.
So, here's my idea:
- In Pamac users see the install button regardless of the package type.
- Besides it there is a "select" case that can be ticked. This allows for multiple package selection. Once one is selected, the install button gets highlighted and the "apply" one at the bottom too. This is a clear indication that one can select multiple packages and then "apply" to install them.
- If a user clicks the install button, then all they have to do is to add their password. No more "transaction summary".
- I recommended o make the installation process bar more visible - even taking the entire pamac window so it is obvious that users should not close it and such. I've seen users that didn't notice the installation process was still underway so they decided to close Pamac. I would recommend the same strategy for when updates are installing. We want the user to understand that important processes are happening so that they do not close the window.
Even the "pending" tab should be somehow highlighted with the number of pending operations not simply at the bottom of Pamac
Of course these are just some suggestions. Maybe some at least could be seen as a good feedback.
Cheers!
