Sorting method for search
If I look for vaapi
using pamac search vaapi
I obtain the following list:
ultra-simple-screen-recorder-git r4.cf575cb-1 AUR
Recording screen on Linux using kmsgrab and vaapi
libvdpau-va-gl-i965 1-1 AUR
VDPAU driver with OpenGL/VAAPI backend for i965 chipset
lib32-libvdpau-va-gl 0.4.2-2 AUR
VDPAU driver with OpenGL/VAAPI backend
intel-media-driver-git 2018.3.pre3.r308.g862e9600-1 AUR
Intel Media Driver for VAAPI — Broadwell+ iGPUs (git version)
gstreamer-screenrecording-git r45.a9972fb-1 AUR
Record screen or window with VAAPI(intel I420 or NV12), OMX(radeon NV12),
software (x264enc I420 or NV12) to mkv file, with or without sound.
vdr-softhdvaapi 3.0.1.r23.gec09dbf-1 AUR
VDR output plugin with CUDA and Opengl
mplayer-vaapi 36265-19 AUR
A movie player, compiled with vaapi support
manjaro-vaapi 20200126-1 extra
manjaro VA-API support (Meta-PKG)
gstreamer-vaapi 1.16.2-2 extra
GStreamer Multimedia Framework VAAPI Plugin
gstreamer0.10-vaapi 0.5.9-1 AUR
A collection of VA-API based plugins for GStreamer (this is the last version
compatible with GStreamer 0.10)
chromium-vaapi 83.0.4103.97-1 AUR
Chromium with VA-API support to enable hardware acceleration
I guess that the one with the highest priority is the last one in the list, but it is specific to one application and it is a package from AUR.
The second one is even less relevant for the average user.
Only the third and the fourth results are actually relevant for a generic search about vaapi
and are from the official repositories.
I think the method used by yay
suits better:

In general I think the search in Pamac is not robust and the sorting method can be confusing for new users. Right now I do not have a defined "feature request", but I would like to open a discussion in order to improve it.
