Column widths should be fixed for package lists
Created by: lots0logs
I am referring to the package listing area of the window which has the following columns: State, Name, Version, Repository, and Size.
Currently the unusually long package name and/or version strings for a handful of packages causes those two columns to push the columns that follow them out of the viewable area. The user must scroll horizontally or enlarge the window to see all columns. The window width required to show all the columns is, IMO, too large to be used as a default width for the application. I'm not sure how difficult the following solution would be to implement, though I realize its a lot easier said than done
Impose a character limit on the package name and version columns. When a string is longer than the limit, save the string in a separate variable, truncate the string, add an ellipsis (...), and then finally show the original string when the mouse cursor hovers over the column row.
What do you think? Good idea? Difficult to implement? Easy?
