Artifacts and flicker in windowed applications on scaled monitor
Affects version: 3.36.3+6+g44a335812-1
I don't know if this is the right place to raise this bug. Let me know if I should push it upstream to Arch or Gnome.
I run Manjaro testing. Using Gnome on Wayland.
As part of a recent batch of upgrades, I upgraded mutter from 3.36.3-1 to 3.36.3+6+g44a335812-1.
After the upgrade I noticed horrendous flickering and black artifacts in Firefox windows. At first I thought it was just Firefox, but then I noticed issues in other applications, such as pamac-gtk. For some reason the issue is much worse in Firefox than in other applications. In Firefox, moving the mouse or clicking pretty much anywhere causes black artifacts to flicker all over the place, and UI elements (including bits of web page) jump all over the window. In pamac-gtk, only the drop-down menu in the top-right of the monitor seems to be affected.
All the affected applications I've seen so far are GTK3 applications, but I haven't done that exhaustive a sweep.
The issue only seems to be present when the application is windowed on a monitor with DPI scaling. I have 2 monitors, one with scale factor 100%, and one with scale factor 200%.
- On either monitor, maximized, everything is fine
- On the 100% monitor, windowed, everything is fine
- On the 200% monitor, windowed, broken
Downgrading mutter to 3.36.3-1 fixes the issue.
Let me know if there's anything else you want to know about my setup.
