attempt on a non-recursive version

I have the impression that it runs more responsive now. Also along the way I un-nested some remaining functions and added some little error catching. Have fun with it! ;) manjaro-architect-exp is in unstable now. Just updated once more. Latest version is now r224.g69231ca.
